Macedonia, IA
Mary Clayton Denny’s family moved to the Macedonia, IA farm in March 1949 when Mary was 11 years old. Her folks paid $24,000 for it and raised chickens, pigs, and milk cows before switching to Black Angus cattle. The barn was home to numerous cats, dogs, a couple of ponies and a goat or two. According to Mary, “If you wake up on a farm to the smell of new-mown hay and the song of a meadowlark, you have received a special gift from God that you will always remember.”
